Stretch your legs
Take a stroll along the ramparts: 1,640 metres of walkway await you. Make the most of this walk to (re)discover the defensive system and architecture of the Middle Ages… and get a breath of fresh air!
An engaging guided tour
Right from the first rooms, in the Governor’s Quarters, the introductory areas to the tour present the history of the monument, the town and salt production through models, projections and a short animated film!
All along the rampart walk, there are plenty of features designed for our youngest visitors: animated films, touch-screen tables, interactive game panels…
A view not to be missed
Make the most of the terraces at the Tour de Constance, the Porte de la Marine and the Porte des Moulins, as well as the Tour de Villeneuve, to admire the most stunning views of the salt marshes and the Camargue!

Get ready to explore the monument with your children! There are several options available:
The activity booklet
Put together your royal team: the big summer treasure hunt
To mark the Football World Cup, young visitors are invited to take on a challenge like no other: putting together their very own royal team!
As they stroll along the ramparts, the children will meet the characters who brought the town of Aigues-Mortes to life in the Middle Ages: merchants, craftsmen, guards and builders. Each plays a vital role in the running of the town and its fortifications.
But watch out: at the end of the trail, you’ll have to make some choices! Just like a manager, each participant will have to select just 11 characters to form the ideal team capable of ensuring the town’s prosperity and security.
A fun and educational activity that invites younger children to discover medieval history whilst developing their powers of observation and critical thinking.
Ages 6 and over – Game booklet available free of charge at reception.
The activity booklet is replaced by themed games for the Easter holidays, Halloween, etc.

For the little ones, fancy dress is a must!
Free costume hire
Visit the towers and ramparts of Aigues-Mortes dressed as noble ladies and valiant knights!
This summer, young visitors are invited to experience a life-size medieval adventure right at the heart of the monument! Costumes, swords, shields and flower crowns are available for young princesses and little knights to use as they let their imaginations run wild, play and explore the site freely.
Children can collect their equipment in the monument’s main courtyard, every day between 10.00 and 16.00, before setting off to explore the towers and ramparts and uncover their secrets!
Equipment can be collected from the information desk in the Cour du Logis.
A valid form of ID must be presented in exchange for the equipment and will be returned at the end of the visit.

Self-guided escape game
The Echo of the Towers: a brand-new escape game
During renovation work in the underground passages of the Tour de Constance, an ancient sealed chest bearing the mark of Louis IX was discovered behind a collapsed wall. On its lid is a strange inscription:
“Let whoever opens this chest accept the burden it entails.”
Thinking they had found a treasure, someone opened it.
Ever since that night, disturbing phenomena have been on the rise: voices echo along the ramparts, silhouettes appear at the top of the towers before vanishing into the mist, and strange messages seem to be waiting to be deciphered.
Near the chest, a notebook abandoned by a former watchman reveals a disturbing theory:
“The chest did not contain a treasure… It held the forgotten souls of the ramparts.”
Your mission? To explore the fortifications and solve the puzzles linked to their history in order to reconstruct an ancient ritual capable of banishing the spirits back to their prison before nightfall.
How to play?
Armed with your mobile phone and a game booklet, set off across the ramparts.
Self-guided – Ages 12 and over. Game booklets are available free of charge on a self-service basis at reception.

A Knights’ Camp:
The Knight of Algues, a descendant of Pierre d’Algues, a banneret knight of St Louis during the Seventh Crusade in 1249, has set up camp in the main courtyard of the towers and ramparts of Aigues-Mortes; An opportunity to discuss the arts of the table and spices, medicine and herbalism, as well as games (backgammon, chess, etc.).
Taking place on 18 and 19 April, 24 and 25 May, 4, 5, 18 and 19 July2026. Battles on the ramparts: 26 July and 29 August2026. No additional charge on top of the admission fee.

Monuments Made Easy:
On the first weekend of the autumn half-term holidays, come and take part in the Centre des monuments nationaux’ family-friendly event, specially designed for families.
This year, we’re celebrating the 800th anniversary of the coronation of Saint Louis! To mark the occasion, join us on 17 and 18 October 2026 for storytelling tours that will invite young and old alike to design their own crown, and a brand-new escape game in search of Louis IX’s lost crown!
No extra charge on top of the admission fee / free for under-26s.
Tales and Stories:
To mark the festive season, let yourself be swept away into the wonderful world of fairy tales and legends at the heart of the fortress. For Christmas, the trail is decked out in its finest: a forest of fir trees, a majestic medieval banquet table, an exhibition of Provençal nativity figures, a magical trail and a reading corner invite young and old alike to share a moment of discovery and wonder in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
On certain dates, extend the experience with unique activities:
Chocolate Fables 2Whata delight to immerse yourself in a sea of stories! In a few secret rooms within the ramparts, come and savour ‘chocolate fables’, delicately sprinkled with reimagined fairy tales. Dates to be announced
Storytelling tour – Constance’s ChristmasAt thefoot of the Christmas tree and the festive table in Constance’s Tower, listen to the tale of a Christmas like no other. A tour full of magic to enjoy with the whole family.

Visitor information and terms and conditions
Plan your visit in advance
- Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Pets are not permitted. Only guide dogs and assistance animals are allowed on the monument’s premises.
- The visitor route is not accessible to pushchairs, which can be left at reception.
- The tour route is very exposed to the sun in summer: make sure you bring water and sun protection!
- There are no drinking fountains or toilets on the ramparts!
- The monument does not provide a left-luggage facility. Under Vigipirate security measures, entry with suitcases and large bags is not permitted.
- Bicycles and scooters are not permitted inside the monument. Children’s bicycles and scooters can be left at reception (please note the monument’s closing time).
Enjoy your visit with peace of mind
- A baby changing facility is available in the toilets.
- A shaded relaxation area is available in the main courtyard.
- A drinks vending machine is available.
- Sylvette welcomes you for a refreshing and delicious break in the main courtyard (artisan ice creams, homemade biscuits, etc.).
- There’s a bookshop at the exit of the monument.
