PRESENTATION

As part of Printemps du Dessin 2026, Lise Chevalier 's "Murmure des Arches" exhibition explores drawing as a vibrant space combining colour, natural elements and writing. She tells the story of her inner mythology, linked to the history of the towers and ramparts of Aigues-Mortes. She uses a wide range of techniques, including ceramics, glass painting, branch weaving and stone installations, to let the light penetrate the fortress through the cracks and fissures, while the lichens become fragments to be deciphered. The pieces deal withmental, poetic and metaphorical escape, and the permeability between the outside and inside of the walls. Walls as an enclosure, a refuge, the possibility of transcendence.

THE EXHIBITION

This exhibition is a journey in 5 chapters, like the five fingers of the hand that draws, writes and sculpts.

  1. " Murmures animales " at the Porte de l'Organeau
  2. " With my hands I dig out thoughts " in the Assommoir at the Porte de la Marine
  3. " Deluge " in the Poudrière tower
  4. " Platanakia - the mistral and the sun " Villeneuve tower
  5. " Arche " in the Mèche tower (with a sound creation by the musician Bololipsum)

THE ARTIST

Trained at the Universität der Künste in Berlin (meisterschühler with Lothar Baumgarten), Lise Chevalier is a visual artist and poet whose approach is characterised by the multiplicity of media, the use of traditional skills and projects abroad. The artist creates an "inner mythology" in reciprocity with the living world. Megaliths stand side by side with ferns, and a "plant genesis" is revealed in her inks, papers and ceramics. Her artist's books and installations invoke a rite towards an uninterrupted dialogue with nature. She has lived and worked in Sète for twelve years, and has exhibited in France and abroad (Auberge de France in Rhodes, the Archaeological Museum in Agrigento, the French Institute in Kyoto, the Metropolitan Cultural Centre in Quito, Parkingallery in Tehran, the Künstlerhaus Bethanien art centre in Berlin). In France, her work has been exhibited at MO.CO and Galerie AL/MA in Montpellier, Musée Paul Valéry and Pop Galerie in Sète, and Topographie de l'art in Paris. She was born and grew up in the reedy landscapes of the Camargue.
